Every August my family travels to Lake Billy Chinook in Madras, Oregon to enjoy 5 days of beach bliss! We have been doing it for the past 21 years and it is the trip of the year that everyone, especially my cousins, look forward to. My Aunt and uncle own a cabin in 3 Rivers Resort known as "the Stone House" for the obvious reason that it is entirely made of stone.
In the early years we were pretty crazy kids. We spent all day intertubing until our brains were mush, played cards, built huge sand cities, and then finished our day with a trip to the store to stock up on candy. When we got back to the cabin we'd play more cards until bed. We had 2 rooms acrossed the hall from eachother asigned to us kids. One for the 5 boys, and one for us 3 girls. We would spend most of our nights sneaking into eachothers rooms to listen to my cousin Jeff tell funny jokes or scarey stories, and we would end it with a candy food fight. Our favorite weapon, candy necklaces. A sling shot and hard candy all in one. For years we would find leftovers from our candy wars under beds, behind doors and under the carpets. It was so much fun. Now we pretty much just want to star gaze, eat and enjoy the time away from the busy world back home.
In the mornings we wake up early to head down to the beach to get "our special spot", the only spot that will accomidate the size of our family. Some people cheat and put a chair or two on the beach the night before to reserve it. We just kindly move it aside to make room for ours. Its a very sought after "special spot." This year we were visited by a few fawns and some gorgeous butterflies. The water was 75 degrees and the weather was perfect...yum!! The beach wasnt very crowded as well.
