What a blessing today was. We took some huge steps today, literally. First, around 3:30am I woke up to Peyton pulling out her stomach tube from her nose...of course I wasn't surprised. The nurses decided not to replace it..YAY! Later that morning they also decided to turn off her oxygen and remove her nasal tube because her breathing was so much better. She surprised us all by keeping her oxygen levels up to normal and breathing at a normal rate. She has been able to keep fluids down now all day so she was finally rewarded with a yummy popsicle!! By the video I'm sure you can tell how much she loved it. she has been put on a BRAT diet (bananas.rice.applesauce.toast). Tomorrow she can hopefully have her french fries!!!! Physical Therapy came to visit as well. Peyton surprised us again by balancing pretty well on her feet and taking her first big steps in 2 weeks. She even tried to crawl up the bed by herself...ha!! The Therapist was so impressed by how well she moved and how strong her movements were. Oh and we FINALLY got our 3rd stool sample negative for ECOLI!!! This means Peyton is no longer in isolation. She is still on her antibiotic to reduce the risk of infection from her PICC lines and dialysis cathetor. We were told her arm PICC line will be removed today and the cathetor on Monday!! She will still keep her other PICC line in her leg though to continue blood draws and IV fluid. Because she is able to drink fluids on her own now she will dicontinue her IV tonight. She is also still on her antiseizure medications until they do an EEG (test to show possible seizure activity in the brain) on Monday. If there is none she will be weaned from the meds. Im so scared she might have another seizure when the meds are stopped. Luckily they can give me Valium suppositories to give her during a seizure if we are at home. Her blood pressure has continued to stay elevated around 120/90 or so, so they are still giving her hypertension medication. Some children stay on this for up to 6 months after they are released from the hospital. All in all she is doing so well aside from her irritability and mood swings. When she is happy she is SO happy and giggling. When she is upset she lets everyone in the hospital know it. The best news today is they feel Peyton is stable enough to be moved out of the ICU!! Right now we are just waiting for a room to be available. No more beeping monitors, no more midnight tests...we just may be able to get a goodnights rest and we still hope to be home by early next week!! Thank you for your prayers and thank you for praying for french fries!!
